UFCW Eastern Provinces Council stands in solidarity with CUPW
As Canada Post workers with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers begin their picket lines across the country on Nov. 15, UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council members stood in solidarity with CUPW members in the fight across Atlantic Canada.
CUPW workers made the choice to walk out on Canada Post after reaching too great an impasse in bargaining – mostly surrounding wages that have not kept up with inflation, and a change to their health benefits plan which would see new hires placed on a defined contributions plan as opposed to the defined benefits plan – among many other issues.
Another arising fear is the government power to force workers off the line through legislative changes, as opposed to fair negotiation.
To brighten the spirits on the line, UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council members dropped off coffee and doughnuts to picketing members in Moncton, and ADL chocolate milk to those fighting in Charlottetown.
UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council will continue to stand in solidarity with CUPW workers both on and off the picket line until a fair deal is achieved.
